Candi Kidal

Candi Kidal

Candi Kidal (height 12.5 m, area: 35 m2) Rejokidal village situated about 20 km east of the city of Malang - East Java. Kidal temple was built in 1248 AD, coincided with the end of the funeral ceremonies for King Anusanatha Cradha (Anusapati), successor to King Rajasa The Amurwabhumi. Anusapati diarcakan as Shiva and placed in the main hall of the temple. But now these statues are not in place anymore.

From the list of books visitors yan is apparent that left-handers are not as popular as her friend Candi Candi Singosari, Jago or Jawi. This is because Candi Kidal lies far in rural areas, not much commented on by experts of history and rarely written in tourism guide books. The location of this temple itself is located alongside a main street village, but because it is indented slightly to the inside so hard to see before actually being right in front of the entrance gate of the temple area.

Kidal temple made of andesite stone and vertical geometric dimension. The foot of the temple seems a bit high with stairs into small upward as if not the actual entrance stairs. Temple body size smaller than foot wide and the roof of the temple, thus emphasizing the impression slim. The roof of the temple consists of three parts with the top surface large enough to have a roof like a jewel without decoration or Stupa. Each layer is left little room spacious and decorated. They say every corner of the first layer of the roof of the temple where a small diamond.

Kala headdress looks creepy with his eyes bulging full. Her mouth was open and saw two large fangs and curved to give the impression of dominance. The existence of two canine is also a hallmark feature of the temple Timuran Java. Left corner and right there with the finger mudras (attitude) threatened. So sempurnalah sacred duty as guardians of the temple building.

Judging from his age, Kidal Temple is the oldest temple of heritage temples in East Java. This is because the period of Airlangga (11-12 M) and (Kediri (12-13 M) did not leave the temple, except for Temple real Jolotundo Hemisphere and is not a temple but pertirtaan. Based on the description above, with the middle still has a style of Java and contains elements of Java Timuran, the Kidal temple built during the transition from the second period. Even Candi Kidal temple called the prototype of the period of East Java.

Southpaw name itself is very likely derived from the form of temple ornaments Anusapati unusual tomb, which is generally primarily decorative reliefs on the temple is paradaksina (Sanskrit = clockwise, from right to left), but it is prasawya Candi Kidal (Sanskrit = counter-clockwise, from left to right). Southpaw himself in Old Javanese language means "left".

Candi Kidal is the only temple which has particularly Java Garuda complete narrative story. There are three reliefs of Garuda in this temple, the first Garuda with a snake holding three large, second relief depicts eagle with a jug above his head and three reliefs of Garuda supporting a woman on it. Among the three reliefs, the relief of the two is the most beautiful and still intact.

A question, why the carved reliefs of Garuda (Garudeya) at the temple left-handed? What to do with Anusapati? Most likely before he died, Anusapati notice to his family for future dicandi established for him so that made Garudeya relief. He deliberately so because the aim meruwat told her mother, Kendedes, whom she loved, who always suffer and during his life has not fully become the main female.

The legend of the temple left-handed:

In ancient Javanese literature, there is a story that is popular among the people Garudeya, namely travel stories eagle in freeing his mother from slavery to redemption Amrita holy water.

Of course the gods do not approve Garudeya desire so that a fight broke out. But the gods can be defeated. Seeing this Batara Vishnu intervened and Garudeya can be defeated. After hearing stories about his desire to obtain Amrita Garudeya, then Batara Vishnu memeperbolehkan Garudeya condition should want to be a vehicle mount. Garudeya approve, so as to bring the water back down to earth Amrita (second relief).

Since that time also became a mount Batara Garudeya Vishnu. And armed with holy water Amrita Garudeya is finally able to free his mother from slavery on Kadru. This is illustrated in the third relief where Garudeya with her mother's burly arms and freedom from slavery.
